we caught up with time for an intimate interview
- question: We are loving your song “In Decline” Can you tell us a little about the backstory of the song? When was it written and recorded?
- answer: (Chris) I started writing “In Decline” in 2017 while I was working in Naples Florida. I bought a piano from a thrift store for $100 and it was the first thing I came up with when I got it back to my apartment. It took me the next year to finish it. (Jon) We demoed it out a little bit as the core 3 piece (at the time) band of Chris, myself and Paul to refine and recorded it as part of the session at The Lumberyard when recording the rest of the ‘In Decline’ EP which was released January 2020.
- question:What inspired you to cover The Early November’s “Ever So Sweet”? What are some of your favorite albums?
- answer: (Chris) I’ve just always really liked that song. I looked up the chords one day and made a demo of it and it sounded cool so I went with it. (Jon) We had this kind of Oasis/Coldplay thing we wanted to do with it, and the progression and inclusion of piano really pushed that. It came out great and it definitely stands out across the rest of our music. Go to records (Chris) Elliott Smith: ‘Figure 8’, Hatebreed: ‘Satisfaction is the Death of Desire’, Weezer: ‘Weezer (Blue Album)’, The Wonder Years: ‘Suburbia I’ve Given You All and Now I’m Nothing’. (Jon) anything Walter Schreiffels has ever touched, which I know I speak for myself and Paul on; a massive inspiration from Quicksand to Rival Schools and all of his other projects. Nirvana: ‘In Utero’, Title Fight: ‘Floral Green’, and Nine Inch Nails: ‘Broken.’
- question: Do you have any new music on the horizon? Where do you reside and what’s the music scene there like?
- answer: We have our first LP titled ‘Hydrangea’ coming out summer 2022 on Jumpstart Records. We’re all from in or around the Philadelphia area and will confidently say Philadelphia is one of the most powerful musical cities for hardcore and punk/indie in the country.
- question: How old were you when you started writing lyrics? What’s the most thrilling part of writing music?
- answer: (Chris) I started playing drums in bands when I was 12 and at 20 (I am 38 now) I started writing my own solo stuff. It wasn’t very good but it was something to do. Our song “Sinking Beneath” is actually one of those songs I just rearranged it a bit.
- question: Do you have day jobs or is music full-time? Do you have an ultimate goal for TIME?
- answer: (Chris) I own my own company everyone else in the band has full time, real world jobs as well. We are excited about the future of TIME if the opportunity came for us to make a living with the band we would take it. Our goal is to be the biggest hardcore band in the world.
