we caught up with bliss fields for an intimate interview
- question: We are loving your new song “Clementine.” Can you tell us a little about the backstory of the song? When was it written and recorded?
- answer: (Scott) “Clementine” was like an experiment for me, I wanted to make our sound a little poppier, but I didn’t want it to lose the edge with all the fuzz and overdrive and shit. So, it was sort of like let’s do pop our way! It was around the end of 2017 when I wrote it and we recorded it a year later.
- question: What are some of your biggest inspirations when writing your music? Who are some of your biggest influences on your music?
- answer: The world around me! There’s so much bullshit in the world, it sucks. Makes it really easy to write a song about yearning for something more! I love Tom Delonge so much, I think he’s incredible. He kickstarted my ability to write music again during the quarantine. I think he seeps in to writing often. Obviously we also like Oasis, and Slowdive, etc! More recently, I’m feeling influenced by The Ramones!
- question: What is your favorite season and why? Where do you live and what is your favorite thing to do in the area?
- answer: I love Autumn personally, the colours are amazing. I live in Toronto, it sucks right now with the snow. Not much to do in the area cause of Covid, but it’s nice to go on a walk with friends and loved ones! I personally just love having movie nights with my partner. That’s my favourite activity.
- question: Who wrote “It Comes In Waves”? What is the message in the song?
- answer: I wrote “It Comes In Waves.” It’s about a night where I admittedly drank a tad much and puked all over my shirt and this uber drivers car. Nasty stuff.
- question: If you had to cover any album in full what would it be? Do you have an ultimate goal for Bliss Fields?
- answer: Oh man, I don’t even know where to start with that. If it’s a record that’s similar, probably would give that first Slowdive record a nice modern polish! If we’re talking a reimagining for a record, I would love to cover Third Eye Blind’s “Out of the Vein.”
